👉 You’re giving, giving, giving… but where are the sales?
👉 People LOVE your freebies, but when it’s time to buy? They disappear.
That was me, too—until I realized the freebie trap was killing my business.
💔 People consumed my free content but never took action.
💔 My inbox was filled with “thank you’s,” but not payments.
💔 I was attracting freebie collectors, not serious buyers.
I gave away over 40 lead magnets, 15+ free video trainings, free consultations, and even free audits—and what happened? People saw me as the “freebie coach,” not as the expert they should invest in.
I realized something critical: More free doesn’t mean more sales.
In fact, giving too much away for free was actively stopping my business from growing.
If you feel like you're constantly giving but not growing, you might be caught in the freebie trap—and it's time to break free.
It’s easy to believe that offering more free content will build trust and authority.
We’re told: “Give massive value first, and they’ll trust you enough to buy.”
❌ People get overwhelmed – Too many options lead to decision fatigue, and they don’t take action.
❌ They see you as “the freebie coach” – When everything is free, they assume you don’t have premium offers.
❌ They collect, but they don’t invest – I had subscribers download 40+ of my freebies but never buy from me.
At one point, I had over 40 different lead magnets which I believed were those high-converting lead magnets. I thought I was giving massive value,
But here’s what happened:
❌ My audience got overwhelmed with too many choices.
❌ They downloaded multiple freebies but never moved forward.
❌ Instead of leading them to my paid offers, they stayed stuck in freebie mode.
💡 LESSON LEARNED: If you’re giving away too much, your audience is consuming—not committing.
No, you don’t need to stop offering free content. But here’s the key: Your free lead magnets should lead people toward a paid solution—not just be another thing they collect.
The best lead magnets that convert:
✔ Solve one specific problem (so people feel progress, not overwhelm).
✔ Align with a paid offer (so they naturally lead to working with you).
✔ Create micro-investments (so subscribers start trusting your process).
🚀 Example: Instead of offering "100 Instagram Content Ideas", create "5 Instagram Posts That Convert Followers into Clients"—then guide them to a paid Instagram Strategy Session.
📌 TAKEAWAY: Freebies should be stepping stones to paid solutions—not a never-ending library of free content.
Instead of random freebies, your lead magnet should:
🎯 Solve a problem your audience is already looking to fix.
🎯 Align with your paid offer so there’s a natural next step.
🎯 Activate buyers by showing them the value of working with you.
❌ Bad Lead Magnet:
📌 “100 Instagram Content Ideas” → Random freebie, no clear next step.
📌 Attracts people who just want ideas, not those ready to invest.
✅ Good Lead Magnet:
📌 “5 Types of Instagram Posts That Convert Followers Into Clients” → Directly ties into a paid Instagram strategy session.
A good lead magnet is a stepping stone to your offer—not just another free resource.
To create lead magnets that SELL, follow these 3 must-have elements:
1️⃣ Alignment → Does your lead magnet connect to your core paid offer?
✔ Example: A "Lead Magnet Checklist" that leads to a paid Lead Magnet Workshop.
2️⃣ Activation → Does it prime your audience to take the next step?
✔ Example: A tripwire guide that introduces a sales funnel training.
3️⃣ Automation → Does it have a backend sales system?
✔ Example: A tripwire offer that monetizes leads immediately.
🚀 Key Takeaway: A good lead magnet doesn’t just give value—it moves people toward investing in your paid solutions!
The strategy is more important than just your lad magnets. People need to know your paid solution and what you have to offer so you need automation along with lead magnets- even if that means simple ones.
✅ 1-3 high-converting lead magnets → linked to your paid offers
✅ Automated tripwire offers → small, immediate sales
✅ Email sequences → nurture & convert leads into long-term buyers
We go a lot deeper into my signature email marketing program on this but without backend monetisation and strategy your lead magnet strategy is a waste of time.
If you’re currently over-giving, here’s how to shift from freebie overload to a strategic email system that converts.
Your lead magnets should not be random. They should directly tie into your money-making offers.
🚫 What I used to do: Give away free lead magnets with no real connection to my paid offers.
✅ What I do now: Every freebie leads strategically into my ASCEND, where people actually learn how to turn subscribers into buyers.
Example:
✔️ My freebie “47 Ways to Promote Your Lead Magnet” leads to my Lead Magnet Workshop and eventually to ASCEND.
✔️ People downloading this freebie are already interested in lead generation, making them the perfect fit for my paid trainings.
📌 Takeaway: Every lead magnet should be a stepping stone to your paid offers—not a dead-end freebie.
If people are only hearing from you when you’re giving away free stuff, they’ll never expect to buy from you. That’s why email marketing is your biggest monetization tool.
Here’s what I changed:
🔥 I built automated email sequences that nurture subscribers and introduce my paid offers naturally.
🔥 I stopped treating my email list like a “value dump” and started strategically guiding people toward sales.
🔥 I included tripwires and special offers inside my emails, so people immediately saw that I had paid solutions.
What happened? My sales grew, without me feeling pushy.
📌 Takeaway: If your audience only expects free stuff from you, they will never expect to invest in you. Your emails should train them to see you as a paid expert, not a freebie provider.
If you’re stuck in the freebie trap, here’s how to shift your strategy today:
✅ Audit Your Freebies (Kill the Ones That Don’t Sell!)
Ask yourself:
Does this freebie naturally lead to my offer? (Or is it just another thing people collect?)
Does it solve a problem that makes my paid solution the obvious next step?
Is it attracting action-takers—or just freebie hoarders?
✔️ Choose ONE money-making offer as your core focus.
✔️ Pull out one to three lead magnets that directly lead to that offer.
✔️ Set up an email nurture sequence that moves subscribers from freebie → trust → investment.
📩 Make sure your emails regularly introduce your paid offers.
📩 Use tripwires, fast-action offers, or exclusive discounts in your email sequences.
📩 Send weekly value-packed emails that also guide readers toward working with you.
📌 Takeaway: You’re not "selling"—you’re giving people an opportunity to solve their problem faster by working with you.
